Know your body....planes!

Hello Everyone,

The body planes and directional terms are essential for every healthcare worker.  They are so important, there will be a test on them next week.  Don't worry, I'll fill you in on all the details.

HOMEWORK for the next three days, FRI, SAT, SUN:

Before you get out of bed, take your pulse for one full minute.  Record it.  Do this for three consecutive days.  Bring in a piece of paper with the three pulse rates on it and average it.

Congratulations to the PM class for solving the nail on the wood block puzzle today.  AM....you were so close before the bell rang!  I just know you'll solve it tomorrow.  PM: NO LEAKING OF THE SOLUTION, Please!!!

New club on GHS campus:  Peer Health Educators Club   Thursdays in P15 at lunch.  Let me know if you are going to check it out, okay?

REMINDERS:

  1. Get your flu shot ASAP and bring me TWO COPIES of the proof, not just the receipt for payment.  MADELYN P. - Great job!  You're the first to turn yours in.
  2. Solar panel construction starting on GHS campus.  Please carpool if you can.
  3. BTSN 9/6
  4. DUE 9/5: Work on getting the learning style inventory completed and printed.  See 8/29 blog.

Prefixes, Suffixes and Combining Forms....Oh My!

Hello All,

Please read the previous blog post too (8/29)...it's full of useful information!

Now that you have your MT book at home, please read Ch. 3 and make some flashcards for the combining forms, or be ready to talk about them.

Start making flashcards.  Need some?  Dollar Store, CVS, grocery stores or office supply stores, like Staples.

Here's how you do it:

1. Buy multi-color packs of flashcards, about 4 or 5 packs.

2. Write the term on the front and the answer on the back.  Write big so you can test others at a distance. Use a pencil or write so it doesn't show through.

3.  Prefix gets a - after the term.   Example:  pre-

4.  Suffix gets a - before the term.  Example -ectomy

5.  For combining forms, be sure to include the combining vowel.  Example:  gastr/o

6.  Abbreviations - just write on front, answer on back.

Start with the integumentary and skeletal systems, but you'll be creating an awesome set of cards.  You can use a rubber band, plastic ziplock, punch holes and put a big ring through them and have fun.

Take a look at www.studystack.com and look at medical terminology and bring in your findings tomorrow.  Many other subjects are available too, so utilize the site for your other classes as well.

Love your choices for Pioneer in Medical History!  Keep researching and finding out all you can about them, their discovery and of course, your opinion and feelings about them.

TOMORROW IS A SPARE THE AIR DAY...VERY HOT.  Traveling students, attempt to carpool!

Take care,

Mrs. Erceg
