Happy Friday to You

Hello All,

Please read over the last few blogs every day so you can keep caught up with all class happenings and assignments.

I want to take a moment here and say that I rely very heavily on all of you to keep the Medical Occupations Program viable and successful.  I am so happy that you are all doing a great job and some of you are "rolling with the punches" - the challenges that we encounter are best handled in a professional way with my guidance and support.  It's not what happens to you, it's how you handle it, right? I AM VERY PROUD OF ALL OF YOU!!!

All Stanford ValleyCare Interns:

Due to the Stanford ValleyCare event coming up in transitioning to a new EMR, Electronic Medical Records system, there will be some announcements coming up on how we, as the Med Occs Team, will accommodate them and support the process.

This may mean some of you being reassigned for a short time.  Please be patient, as the other teachers and I are working on plans so your hours will not be compromised.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

GHS:

Studio 1 has completed their first of two real Video El Avisos for the trimester.

If you enjoy it, please be sure to comment to any Studio 1 students that you know or to PW.

Important Information

Hello All,

In light of the recent event in Florida, I want you to know that it's all right to have strange, sad feelings, as well as fear for your safety. It is totally acceptable and expected.

Sometimes, some students feel more than others and want to talk or get resources.  I am available to talk or I can give you resources to assist you.  I am here for you for sure.

On another note, all GHS students going to the rally tomorrow - please sign in with me at P2.  You can leave your things here in the classroom and report back to class at P3.  I will award CC hours for helping me with some projects.

Please read over the 2/14 blog carefully, thank you.

6. At site - Initiate tasks, stick to your routine and complete tasks in priority order.  Let me know if you need help with that.

7. We will talk more about "Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month" next week.  Let's start a new dialogue on cues we get from patients that are relevant to suspected abuse of any kind.

Homework - Online Quiz!

Hello All,

Wednesday tomorrow already!

Reminders - please come prepared having completed the quiz. See below.  Please, no details, just your thoughts on the subject of teen dating violence and what a healthy versus unhealthy relationship looks like. You will have a written assignment during class on that.

I will also want your opinion on whether the quiz was helpful to you in some way.

Bella A. and Angel V. will be providing materials from Kaiser's Health Education Department. Thank you both!

1. Keep your RAOK handout front and center.  I cannot wait to see what kind of impact 58 people have x10!!!  (59 including me)

2. Make sure you have your flash cards with you tomorrow!!!  Use your MT Book and keep making your cards from the appendices. Thank you all who brought yours in already!

3. Please take this quiz so you be part of an important discussion on healthy relationships:

 http://www.loveisrespect.org/for-someone-else/is-my-relationship-healthy-quiz/

If you are not currently in a romantic relationship, base your answers on a previous relationship or a platonic relationship with a friend.

4. Are you taking incoming calls or make outgoing calls on behalf of your office or facility?  Please write in your journal what is said when the phone is answered.  When putting someone on hold, Please do not say "Hold on."  Instead, say "Would you please hold for a moment?"....wait for the answer.  Then let the caller know you'll be right with them.  Don't take too long getting back on the line!

5. Interested in $1,000 or $4,000 for college?  See me about applying for the Stanford ValleyCare Auxiliary Scholarship.  You are eligible if you are a graduating senior pursuing a career in a health-related profession.

Take care,

Ms. Erceg

Happy Groundhog Day!

.....This just in -

YORK, Pa. — The results of Groundhog Day 2018 are in: According to legend, we're in for six more weeks of winter because Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. That's in spite of forecasts that predicted a cloudy, shadow-less morning.
The Pennsylvania groundhog isn't the only weather-predicting rodent in this quirky American tradition, but he is the most famous. And according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, his opinion is the only one that matters.
He's not always right. But he's always popular.
Meanwhile, across state lines in New Jersey, Milltown Mel predicted an early spring.
At 7:25 a.m. Eastern time on a hill outside Punxsutawney, Pa., known as Gobbler's Knob, the seemingly immortal Phil — the same rodent who launched the tradition in 1887, if you believe his handlers — looked for his shadow.

Take care,

Ms. Erceg
